It’s time for a new episode of Remember That Show?, and Adam & I are taking you to the dojo, as we discuss mid 90s syndicated gem WMAC Masters. Oh, you don’t know about this show? Then, you’ve come to the right place!
When I was growing up, we knew that the usual Saturday morning cartoon programming had ended when either WWF or Soul Train came on. Well, in 1995, WWF Superstars moved to cable, ending wrestling fandom for us poor people. Its timeslot, however, would be occupied by WMAC Masters, which combined kids’ love of Power Rangers and wrestling. You saw “fighters” with colorful gimmicks and personalities, though they were executing choreographed martial arts moves, like we had become accustomed to from Power Rangers. You could also probably throw in a little American Gladiators as an influence, too, given the era. Oh, and it was totally cashing in on Mortal Kombat and fighting game fever.
I watched this show off and on, whenever Saved By The Bell/TNBC was on reruns, but I wouldn’t say I was a “big fan”. I had memories of it, but I didn’t remember just how BAD it was. But it’s a “Fun” Bad. So, if you want to find out what I mean by that, you can check out our episode here, or wherever you find fine podcasts.
