Trick or Treat! In what has become something of an annual tradition, Adam & I have a special Halloween bonus episode for ya, where we discuss the 1990 syndicated sitcom What A Dummy. Given that it’s spooky season, what’s creepier than a sentient ventriloquist dummy?!
There’s almost nothing online for this thing, but I assure you it existed. I watched it in weekend syndication for the entirety of its one-season run. If you’re not familiar, What A Dummy was a Stephen Dorff vehicle, where a middle class family finds that they’ve inherited a dead relative’s dummy – only to discover the dummy is apparently alive. And an asshole. Well, I guess he’d be considered “wisecracking”, but after about 3 episodes, you’ll see him as an asshole, too.
Remember how I said there’s almost nothing online about the show? That also goes for full episodes, as there’s only one up on YouTube. So, believe me when I tell you that’s ALL you need to make up your mind about this show. That’s why it doesn’t even get the full RTS Treatment.
