In this installment of Remember That Show?, Adam and I introduce a brand new segment called “Channel Surfing”. You see, our mission statement is that we cover the obscure shows of the 80s and 90s, but what do we do when we want to cover something outside that range? Well, you create a loophole, of course! With Channel Surfing, we can do something of a “flyover” of a property outside our normal purview, without necessarily giving it the full RTS? once over. For our opening salvo, we decided to keep the Punky Brewster momentum going from last month’s “bonus” episode, and cover the franchise as a whole.
So, we couldn’t do a regular RTS? episode on Punky, as we don’t want to insult you, our audience. I mean, of course you remember Punky Brewster! And, in case you don’t, I already wrote a summary last month of what the show was about. If you were born in the 80s, you know Soleil Moon Frye’s biggest role. What you may not know, because there was a pandemic going on and junk, is that one of the first Peacock original series was a revival of the show, picking up with present-day Punky, over 30 years since the original show’s finale. I actually even gave it the West Week Ever when the series first hit Peacock, but that was just based on the pilot. I never actually got around to watching the other 9 episodes…until now.
I won’t give away too much here, as I’ve been told some folks don’t love that, but let me just say that this show was exactly what I needed last week. It was the comfortable warm blanket that I didn’t realize I needed. If you want more details, you know where to go!
