Gonna be a short one this week, kids! I’m at magical Walt Disney World, but I’ve also got a streak to maintain, so it is what it is.
Will Around The Web
I was excited and honored to join the After Lunch Podcast as the very first Butler in the After Dinner Lounge! Don’t understand what I mean? Take a listen, and you will!
Links I Loved
Did you know that Seinfeld‘s J. Peterman catalog was a real thing?! I sure didn’t! Not only that, but the man who portrayed J. Peterman – John O’Hurley – is a co-owner of the venture!
Run The Numbers
This feature will return next week. I read a ton, but don’t wanna gloss over any of it.
Things You Might Have Missed This Week
- Kind of a crazy week to be at Disney, as they made 2 unpopular moves while I was here. First up, the long-gestating Tiana Disney+ series was canceled, “as Disney moves away from longform streaming.” In a way, I get it. Does anyone watch those shows? I never heard anything – good or bad – about that Monster, Inc spinoff, and they even got Crystal and Goodman back for that! Still, it feels like another anti-DEI gesture. The second bad move is they announced they’re eliminating 200 jobs – approximately 6% of the workforce – at the ABC Studios level.
- Speaking of cancelations, the TV Grim Reaper was busy over at CBS this week (and “CBS” and “Grim Reaper” have long gone together like peanut butter & jelly). The network canceled both FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, yet said that the in-development FBI: CIA was still in consideration. Also, Shemar Moore’s S.W.A.T. got re-canceled (It was saved last season, after fan outcry).
- Meanwhile, over on Netflix, The Recruit has been canceled after 2 seasons. Bet series star Noah Centineo wishes he’d stayed attached to the Masters of the Universe film, now that it appears it may actually get made.
- Surprisingly, though, The Ark has been renewed for season 3 over on Syfy. That show looked like it had a budget of about $10,000, so I guess I get it.
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge will narrate and executive produce Amazon Prime documentary Octopus! Remember when she was The Next Big Thing? Every few years, America seems to adopt a Pet Brit to fawn over. It was Ricky Gervais, then Russell Brand. Then it was Waller-Bridge, and then that Cunk woman. What I’m saying is that we don’t have the greatest track record there…
- Finally, it was a rough week for People of a Certain Age, as we lost both Saved by the Bell producer Peter Engel and the voice of Space Ghost, from Space Ghost Coast to Coast, George Lowe.
Paradise comes in with its 3rd West Week Ever win. This week was the season finale, and I didn’t love everything about it, but it hit all the notes it needed to hit. I’ve got a LOT of problems with the central mystery resolution. I mean, imagine doing all that just because someone shared their food with you (Folks who watched will get that reference)! Still, it had some major reveals, some tense moments, and got folks into position for season 2. It was a satisfying ending to an incredible season, so Paradise had the West Week Ever.
