I find it sad, yet humorous, when a creative person turns out to be a “one-trick pony”. Tonight’s example: John Wells. I find it interesting that Mr. Wells was so out of ideas that he decided to end the season of two of his shows in the EXACT same manner: Having a bunch of cast members gunned down in the last few minutes of the show.
Now, I can understand this for “Third Watch”. They’re cops, and being gunned down is an occupational hazard. Then again, it happened in such an unrealistic manner. If you were sitting in a hospital waiting room, wouldn’t you find it odd that men in ski masks, carrying uzis, were running down the hall?!!
“ER”, on the other hand, made NO SENSE. Like Dr. Chen doesn’t have enough issues with her father stealing her in the face! I always knew Pratt was trouble for those around him, even though he was trying to be a good guy. They introduced the whole DUI angle just to fake you out. Makes the viewer think he’s gonna retaliate for Pratt’s attitude toward him. Instead, they all end up being gunned down by some road rager! Who got hit? We’ll find out in September.
Oh, Mr. Wells…You’re as talented as those old “Three’s Company” writers. I mean, it was quite the feat eking out seven years of comedy based on ONE joke. You are creating the dramatic equivalent of “Three’s Company.” As much as I love that show, that’s not something to be proud of…
